Beyond Standards

Discovery Topics
Cogno games are targeted to students in grades 3-8, but the game also exposes them to ideas more commonly found in high school and college classrooms. The content is written at their level, yet still gets them thinking about the possibilities of cutting edge science and discovery!

Who would have thought that elementary and middle school students could learn about black holes, the search for extraterrestrial life, Einstein’s theory of relativity, hypertheromophiles, bioluminescence, biotechnology, antimatter, the work of Kepler, Doppler, Hubble, Drake, and Newton, solar sails, and a lot more, all in one game?

All students, from beginners to your most advanced students, will learn something new.

"No Wrong Answer" Questions
In Cogno's world, the game simulates the nature of the scientific endeavor in that no player knows all the answers. The importance of asking questions to learn more is reinforced in Cogno. Certain questions are called “No Wrong Answer” questions where players must answer an open-ended query. To get the question right, students are encouraged to explain their ideas in a way that makes sense to the other players. These questions cover a variety of topics from practical to theoretical; from “If you had to choose an animal to take with you into space, what would it be?” to “How do we decide if something is alive?”
