Game Variations - Alien Adventure Game
There are a few of simple game variations, but you can create more yourself! Here are three:
- If you have players who cannot read or understand the Chaos questions, just have them roll the die again when they land on any Chaos space. If they roll a 2 or a 3, they win a fuel cell. If they roll a one, they don't. This allows almost anyone to play Cogno!
- Play in teams! Cogno is fun to play together, where 2 or more players have a single alien. You can answer questions together, decide about moving forward or backward together, when to use the Time Machine Token, etc.
- Play "Phantom Teams": For four or six players… each player plays with their own alien, but has a teammate. If one teammate reaches the space station with three fuel cells, instead of rolling for fuel to go home they can declare themselves a "Phantom" and can go backwards to help their teammate. They help by landing on the same space as their partner… this boosts their partner to the next Mystery Planet. Also, they can slow the opposing teams down by landing on the same space as an opponent, which shoots the opponent back to the previous Mystery Planet. Eventually, the Phantom and his partner must get to the space station and roll for fuel, and the first team with both players on the Home Planet wins. Two other rules in "Phantom Teams": a) A Phantom cannot enter the Parallel Universe for any reason; and b) a Phantom cannot win or lose fuel cells for any reason. They can answer Chaos Cards and roll again. You can even play Phantom Teams with two players... each player plays two alien game pieces, alternating aliens each turn, and their team plays against the other player's two aliens according to Phantom team rules above.
